Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan says the biggest challenge to developing the agricultural sector is not getting good value for the products of local farmers.

He made this remark while speaking at the official ceremony held in Kaashidhoo Island in Kaafu Atoll to commemorate National Farmer's Day and World Food Day 2022.

The Minister said that the issue of not being able to sell the products of local farmers has long been an issue for agricultural development in the country.

He further said that the administration is working on several ways to resolve the issue and that one of that is to create state-owned Agro National Corporation to improve the sector.

The Minister noted that the Corporation has begun its work by forming contracts with local farmers and marketing their products on the local markets.

He also mentioned that it was difficult to grow farms in some island as their underground water layers have become salty and not appropriate for produce growth.
