Police say they are currently investigating the motive behind the brutal murder of 21-year-old Shiaau Mohamed who was found killed in an apartment in Male' earlier this year and that they would send the case to the Prosecutor General's Office in about 2 weeks.

Police arrested 22-year-old Ali Shahil in relation to the heinous crime and the suspect was apprehended at the scene of the crime. He had been remanded in custody till the end of his trial.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference held today, the Chief Superintendent Head of the Crime Investigation Command Mohamed Basheer said that more than 45 people have been questioned in relation to the brutal murder and that the Police have reviewed CCTV footage that is essential to the crime.

Basheer also said that Police investigators are still analyzing the forensic evidence retrieved during the investigation.

He further said that Police have now got hold of the suspect's phone and are going through its content.

Basheer noted that Police were working together with the Prosecutor General's Office on the case and as per their recommendation Police would forward the case to the PG office in about two weeks.

The young woman's murder shocked the nation after it was revealed that her body was horrifically mutilated with her head decapitated and limbs cut off.
