President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have paid their last respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch whose rule spanned seven decades.
The late Queen passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
Before paying their final respects, the President and the First Lady wrote separate messages in the Book of Condolences opened at Lancaster House, London. The President and First Lady conveyed sincere condolences to His Majesty King Charles III, the royal family, the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The First Lady, having visited her mother before flying to the UK, passed on a message from her mother thanking the late Queen Elizabeth II for her services. The First Lady, as a mother herself and from mothers across the Maldives, offered her gratitude to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her devotion to her children, her country, and her people, and for being an inspiration to all.
The state funeral for Her Majesty the Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 1100hrs BST.
