Presidential Spokesperson Miuvaan Mohamed has confirmed that this year's 2nd 'Viavathi Raaje Conference' would be held in Laamu Gan later this month.
In a tweet, Miuvaan said that the conference would be held from 10th to 12th September in Gan.
This conference would be aimed at local council representatives and presidents of WDCs from the Southern Atolls. This includes Dhaalu Atoll, Thaa Atoll, Laamu Atoll, Gaafu Alifu, and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll as well as Addu City and Fuvamulah City.
The Presidential Spokesperson said that 4 areas would be on the agenda for the 3-day conference and that it includes;
- Financial Empowerment of local Councils
- Infrastructure plan
- Gender Equality
- Building a climate and disaster resilient community
The first Viavathi conference was held back in 2019. But the government held its second such conference in May of this year which was targeted to the central atolls.
