Police have arrested a local man for attacking a teacher who was accused and later apprehended for showing pornographic images to one of his students.

In an incident reported on the 23rd of last month, a crowd of angry civilians had verbally and physically assaulted a man whom they accused of child molestation. The incident had happened at the Hiya Flats area and a viral video of the attack showed that the man was forced to strip to his underwear and hold a sign that labeled him a homosexual.

Police said today they had arrested a 36-year-old local man in relation to the attack and that the suspect was apprehended yesterday under a court-issued arrest warrant.

The man was arrested after the Police had issued a warning to the public saying that they would take action against those who take the law into their own hands and attack individuals who commit crimes or are accused of committing a crime. Police added that the law has the power to investigate and prosecute those who commit crimes.

Meanwhile, the teacher who was beaten has been remanded in custody until the end of his trial. The suspect was initially given a remand of 5 days but once he was taken to the court after the five days were up, the court sentenced him to remand custody for the duration of his trial.
