The Criminal Court has sentenced Bangladeshi National MD Alamgiri to 7 months and 6 days in prison.
The court had yesterday found the Bangladeshi national guilty of homosexuality after he was arrested for having same-sex relations with a number of local men. His arrest came after several videos of him having sex with men were leaked on Social Media.
The state had filed 3 separate charges against him and he had pled guilty to all three charges.
As the defendant had pled guilty to the charges, the Presiding Judge had decided to fast-track the sentencing hearing and in that hearing today, the Bangladeshi national was given a jail sentence of 7 months and 6 days.
The Prosecutor General's Office said that the sentence was lowered as the defendant had pled guilty to the offenses and that the punishment was lowered by 1 rank as per Article 1106 of the Penal Code.
It further gave a breakdown of the sentence saying that as per Article 1006 of the Penal Code, Alamgiri was given the full sentence for the most serious charge while half of the sentence was given for the 2nd serious charge and a quarter of the punishment was given for the 3rd most serious charge.
