The Education Ministry says it has launched an investigation into a bullying incident that happened at Gaafu Dhaalu Education Center where a student with autistic appears to be bullied and physically assaulted.
This comes after a video on social media showed a fellow student approaching the autistic student and exchanging words with him before starting to beat the student.
While the student with autism tries to defend himself, fellow students get between the two and break off the fight.
Sources have said that the incident had happened in front of a teacher and many on social media have voiced concern over the matter.
Speaking to 'The Press', a media official at Education Ministry said that the incident had caught the Ministry's attention and that it was not investigating the matter.
The school is yet to comment on the incident.
Bullying at schools has become common in the Maldives with several disturbing incidents reported recently. Last May, a video of a boy being bullied and beaten in the woods of Shaviyani Milandhoo went viral.
