State Electric Company Stelco has confirmed that there has been a power outage in the whole of Male' and some parts of Hulhumale due to a technical problem.
The Company said that the outage had occurred due to a technical problem with the Greater Male' Interconnection Grid.
It further said the outage had happened when the company had been upgrading the electric system at Hulhumale' power station and that two engines had shut down due to the issue.
Stelco said that it was working to resolve the issue and energize the Interconnection Grid and restore power to the major parts of the capital city.
The power outage in Male' and Hulhumale had occurred at peak hours disrupting businesses, offices, schools, and colleges.
