Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali says in a bid to further strengthen the education system, the government would be issuing licenses to teachers this year.
She made the announcement in her address to mark the beginning of the new academic year.
The Minister said that this year, the ministry has made the further enhancement of the education system one of its main priorities.
She said that one of the plans to achieve this includes issuing licenses to teachers. Minister Dr. Aishath said that the paperwork for the plans are now complete and that the ministry would begin issuing the license this year.
The Education Minister said that the licenses would improve the teaching courses and bring out more capable and dignified teachers to the profession.
She noted that this would also help to improve the students too.
In her address, the Minister highlighted that the government placed great importance on the roles teachers play in nation-building and this was proven when President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided to hike the pay for teachers last May.
She said that she hoped this positive change would be seen in the diligence given to the students this year.
