Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC has begun work to transport the mini buses to the Atolls to kick start mini-bus services in the islands.
MTCC said that 24 buses are being sent to the islands and they have now been loaded onto the transporting vessels.
It said that the buses are being sent to Addu City, Fuvamulah City and Laamu Atoll.
These buses have a capacity of 15-20 passengers.
A total of 36 buses were brought into the country on the 16th of this month to start mini bus services in Male' and the three Atolls.
The buses that would be used in Male' are 20 feet long with a capacity of 16 people and are environmentally friendly.
MTCC is preparing to start the mini bus services in Male' later this month.
The government had signed an agreement with MTCC back in 2019 to begin the mini bus services in Male' in 2020. This is one of the pledges of President Ibrahim Mohamed in his bid to enhance the public transport system in the country.
