Home Ministry says this year it would not be holding the special ceremony to mark the country's Independence Day held every year.
The Maldives celebrates its Independence Day on the 26th of July and this year it would be celebrated next Monday.
The Ministry said that although there would not be a ceremony to mark the day, it plans to hold a flag hoisting ceremony and that it would be held on Monday morning around 6:00 am at the Republic Square in Male'.
Home Ministry said such ceremonies would be also held at all the islands with police stations across the country.
It did not give a reason why the special ceremony would not be held this year but earlier the government had announced that it had canceled the Independence Day floats parade.
The parade was canceled as part of the austerity measures taken to stabilize the economy.
