President's Office has declared the 28th of this month a public holiday.
In a statement, it said that following the new list of government holidays declared for the year 2022, Thursday, 28 July 2022 will be a government holiday.
It further said that as a result, the Independence Day celebration will be extended from 26 – 30 July 2022.
The President's Office added that the administration decided not to proclaim government holidays on July 24 and 25, 2022.
Government offices resumed on Sunday after a week of holidays to mark Eid Al-Adha. Both Eid Al-Adha holidays and Independence Day celebrations fall on school holidays.
But many have been complaining that the school holidays have also fallen during the monsoon season which usually means rainy weather in the Maldives.
