President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is set to meet the media today amid uncertainty over the country's financial situation.
In a tweet, Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook said that the President would meet the reporters at 04:00 pm this evening.
The Spokesperson did not give a reason why the President had decided to meet the media but it has been a while since his last press conference with local media.
When the administration first come into power, the President had met with the media frequently. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, the meetings became less frequent.
The last time he had met the media was in August of last year.
The President's rare appearance in front of the media is coming at a juncture when his administration is facing questions over dwindling state reserves and rising inflation.
Recently, the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed ihad said that state reserves would fall to dangerous levels next month.
But the government had been quick to stem such talk with Finance Minister Ameer tweeting to say that the increasing dollar income would cover the debt payments and that the state reserve would stabilize at the end of the year.
