Tourist Ministry has revealed that more than 700,000 tourists had arrived in the Maldives so far this year.

In the weekly update released by the Ministry, it said that a total of 706,468 tourists have visited the country as of June 1st, 2022.

The update showed that the numbers this year had been the best post-COVID with 455,920 visiting the country by June 2021 and 382,816 by June 202.

Although 2022 arrivals still fall short of pre-COVID numbers by 46,182 tourists a total of 752, 650 tourists had arrived by June 1st, 2019.

Still, the arrivals this year are commendable as the Maldives has recorded a 55 percent increase in arrivals compared to 2021.

Looking at individual markets, India has now become the number one market for the Maldives with 99,614 arrivals from the country till 1st of June.

This also means that India now commands 14.1 percent of the Maldivian tourist market.

Closely behind is the UK with 88,043 arrivals as of 1st June 2022.

Russia takes the third spot with 9.5 percent of the market as 67,088 arrivals from Russia till 1st June.
