Maldives Meteorological Services MET Office has issued a yellow alert over Southern Maldives amid bad weather in the area.
MET Office said that the alert was issued from Laamu Atoll to Addu City and that it would continue from 09:00 am to 02:00 pm.
It said that during this time, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the area.
MET Office further said that strong winds of 25-30 mph and gusts of 45 mph are also forecasted in Southern Maldives. It added that very rough seas are expected in the area.
The MET office advised all to be cautious of the bad weather in the area.
Transport Ministry regulations stipulate that when a yellow alert or a higher alert is issued, sea vessels smaller than 9 feet would not be allowed to carry passengers until the alert is lifted
