MP for Maavashu Constituency Mohamed Saeed has raised concerns about the deterioration of Laamu Gan Regional Hospital and has submitted an emergency motion at the parliament today to resolve the issues at the Southern hospital.

Speaking while submitting the motion, MP Saeed said that the hospital is catering to all the islands in the atoll but the services at the hospital have been worsening day by day which had prompted many to complain.

MP Saeed pointed out several issues at the hospital including the lack of tertiary hospital level services at the hospital as well as the shortage of doctors and nurses at the regional hospital.

He also said that the hospital's board is unable to manage the hospital's staff and that the actions of some staff have placed people's lives in danger.

MP Saeed said that for the past two years it was budgeted to improve the services at the hospital but nothing has been done to avail the situation.

He called on the parliament to accept the motion for debate and to forward it to the appropriate committee for further deliberation.

After the motion was called for a vote, 23 MPs present voted to accept the motion while 11 MPs voted against it.
