Health Minister Ahmed Naseem says hospital renovation projects are running ahead and that the government would tender projects for 25 new hospitals across the country this year.
The Minister said this while speaking at the parliament today.
When asked when the construction work for the tertiary hospital in Thinadhoo would begin, Minister Naseem answered that the work would be tendered in the second quarter of this year.
Minister Naseem further said that the government would be tendering construction work for hospitals in 25 islands this year.
He said that this includes 3 hospitals with unspecified amounts of beds, 12 hospitals with 30 beds, 7 hospitals with 50 beds, and 3 tertiary hospitals with 100 beds capacity.
Minister Naseem said that officials were working to tender the work for 7 beds next month and the rest for the 2nd quarter of this year.
Establishing healthcare services in all the islands across the country is a pledge made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih but the delay in fulfilling the pledged had attracted criticism from the opposition.
