Health Minister Ahmed Naseem says the last 5 doctors sent to Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo have all left the country without noticing the relevant authorities.
The Minister made the comments while speaking at the parliament today after he was summoned to the floor upon the request from the MP for Thinadhoo constituency Abdul Mughnee.
MP Mughnee had asked the Minister to establish a system where doctors who are assigned to the hospital remain there for a longer posting.
Answering this, Minister Naseem said it is unclear why and how doctors who are posted at the hospital leave without notice.
The Minister said the issue had now escalated and this had prompted relevant authorities to act to prevent further cases. Minister Naseem said while the government is spending so much on bringing doctors, doctors too should be held responsible for some allowances.
He further said that the hospitals have been instructed to prevent such cases and have said that health officials are seeking ways in which doctors cannot leave the country without informing the authorities by discussing it with Immigration officials.
