Health Protection Agency HPA has reported an additional 1,037 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Tuesday.

The Agency said that out of the new cases, 136 were confirmed from the Greater Male' Area and that this has kept the positivity rate for the area at 11 percent.

HPA also confirmed that yesterday 828 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands and that 41 cases were reported from the operational resorts. HPA added that it was trying to determine the location of another 32 new cases confirmed yesterday.

With the new cases reported yesterday, the total number of cases confirmed in the Maldives has now reached 161,113.

HPA had said that there are currently 15,782 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 30 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency had also said that it had recorded 145,029 COVID recoveries.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 289 people in the Maldives with mostly elderly locals with underlying health conditions succumbing to the illness.
