Ministry of Higher Education says more than 13,000 students have been given opportunities to enroll in undergraduate studies under the government's Free First Degree Program.
The Ministry's statistics show that around 13,284 have been given higher education opportunities under the program so far.
It also shows that around 2,127 students have finished their studies under the program.
The Ministry said that the government had spent MVR 349 million on the program, the first of its kind that was kicked off back in 2019.
The Free First Degree Program is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih before he took office after winning the 2018 Presidential Elections.
Since its inception, Higher Education Ministry had been improving the Free First Degree program to make it more sufficient and easier for students enrolled under it.
This includes handing the money to the students instead of paying the education centers as well as accepting applications for the program through the MyEdu portal.
