Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the number of daily cases of COVID reported in the Maldives in the last 24 hours has fallen below 1,000 for the first time this month.

HPA said that it had tested 3,936 samples for COVID in the last 24 hours and that 986 had tested positive for the pandemic.

The Agency said that this includes 206 new cases from the Greater Male' Area as well as 596 new cases from the inhabited islands. HPA further reported 109 new cases from the operational resorts and 3 cases from safaris in the country.

The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the Maldives since March 2020 to a staggering 156,903.

HPA also said that there are currently 16,227 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 49 COVID patients are hospitalized for further treatment.

The Maldives has recorded 140,376 COVID recoveries.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 287 individuals in the Maldives. HPA had also said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
