Health Protection Agency HPA has reported a slight drop in daily COVID cases reported in the Maldives following a month of record-breaking numbers.

The Agency said yesterday that 5,343 samples were tested for COVID in the last 24r hours and that 1,576 tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

It said that out of the new cases 517 were reported from the Greater Male' Area where the positivity rate is now at 27 percent.

The Agency also said that 771 new cases were reported from inhabited islands and that 87 cases were reported from operational resorts. HPA is yet to determine the location of 201 cases confirmed yesterday.

The new cases take the total number of COVID cases reported in the Maldives to 151,913.

HPA said that currently there are 16,775 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 60 COVID patients are now hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency had recorded 134,841 recoveries in the country while 284 people have now been killed in the global pandemic.
