Ministry Higher Education says interested individuals can now apply for the recently announcedd student loans starting today.
The Ministry said that 720 student loans are available and applicants can submit their documents by 3rd March.
It also said that under the new loan scheme, new students would be considered as those who began their higher studies on 1st January 2022 and later.
The Ministry said that 420 loans would be allocated for new students and that another 303 loans would be issued to others.
It said that students can apply for the loans using the My Education Portal.
The 720 student loans were announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in his presidential address at the parliament last Thursady.
President Solih had also said that the government’s Free First Degree Programme has been a success as more than 12,730 students have been given opportunities to enroll in undergraduate studies.
The President said that 2,127 students have already completed their degrees and that by the end of 2023, more than 5,000 students are expected to complete their free degrees and contribute to nation-building.
President Solih said that last year more than 1,500 students that wished to attain higher education overseas received student loans. Those that did not have the financial means and people with special needs were prioritized by the Government.
