Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 1,589 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the daily spike in cases begins to decline.
The Agency noted that it had tested 5,617 samples for COVID in the last 24 hours and that 1,850 samples had been from the Greater Male' Area. HPA said that out of that 400 samples tested positive for COVID in the capital and the positivity rate in the area has now dropped to 22 percent.
HPA said that yesterday 843 cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands and another 80 were reported from the operational resorts.
The Agency confirmed that it was working to establish the locations of 266 new cases reported on Saturday.
A total of 148,580 cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Maldives since March 2020.
HPA said that currently there are 17,637 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 52 COVID patients are hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency also said that 130,649 recoveries had been confirmed in the country.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 281 individuals in the Maldives with the latest death coming yesterday. HPA said that yesterday at 03:35 pm an 80-year-old local woman under treatment at Hulhumale Medical Facility had succumbed to the illness.
