Police say they will close off the roads near the parliament building as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to give his annual address at the legislative house tomorrow.

Police said that these areas would be closed off for security reasons.

They said that as President would be attending the parliament building for its first sitting of this year, the area would be closed off to vehicles and pedestrians as well.

Police said starting at 05:45 am tomorrow the roads would be closed off and it would only be re-opened once the session is over.

They also said that it has planned to vacate the parking areas near the Parliament building and had advised vehicle owners to move their vehicles before 03:00 pm today.

Maldives President delivering his presidential address at parliament

The President's Office had said that as per Section 84 of the Constitution, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would deliver his Presidential Address at the start of the first session of Parliament for the year tomorrow.

It further said that the address is scheduled to be delivered at 9 a.m.

The President's Office said that the President would highlight the state of the country and his plans for improvement in his address.

The President also declared tomorrow a public holiday.
