Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional 2,754 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Monday.
The Agency reported that 7,852 samples were tested for COVID in the last 24 hours and that 3,725 were from the Greater Male' Area. HPA said that yesterday 1,407 new cases were confirmed from the area and that the positivity rate in the capital has now reached 38.
HPA also said that it had confirmed 962 new cases from the inhabited islands and another 48 from operational resorts.
The Agency also said that it was working to confirm the location of 357 cases reported yesterday.
The new cases take the total COVID cases reported in the country to a staggering 138,880 in the Maldives.
HPA has said that currently there are 17,770 active cases of the pandemic in the country. The Agency noted that while 120,821 people have recovered from the illness, 63 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 276 individuals in the Maldives with the latest COVID death coming yesterday.
HPA reported that yesterday at 06:17 pm a 95-year-old local man brought to the Hulhumale' Medical facility had passed away due to COVID.
The Agency had also said that the total number of cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID.
