Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed an additional 2,838 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives as the pandemic spread across the country.
The Agency said that 7,394 samples were tested for COVID in the last 24 hours and that out 3,615 samples were from the Greater Male' Area. HPA said that the new cases include 1,295 from the capital where the positivity remains at 36 percent.
The Agency had reported 1,066 new cases from the inhabited islands while it had also confirmed 49 cases from operational resorts and 4 from safaris.
HPA said that it is working to determine the location of 424 other cases reported in the Maldives yesterday.
With Sunday's new cases, the total number of COVID cases reported in the country has now reached a staggering 136,126.
HPA had also confirmed that there are 17,589 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that 53 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
More than 118,200 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 275 people in the Maldives with the latest pandemic death coming from Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru Hospital. HPA had confirmed last night that yesterday morning a 66-year-old local woman had passed away at the hospital due to the illness.
