Health Protection Agency HPA has reported over 1,200 new cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Male' Area alone on Sunday.

The Agency said yesterday that in the last 24 hours it had tested 7,536 samples for COVID and that out of these samples 3,515 were from the Greater Male' Area.

HPA said that 1,268 new cases were reported from the capital city and that the positivity rate in the city is now at 36 percent.

The Agency also said that 728 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands while another 81 new cases were confirmed from the operational resorts and 3 were reported from safaris.

HPA also said that it is yet to confirm the location of 404 new cases reported yesterday.

The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the country to 117,461.

HPA confirmed that currently there are 14,636 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 47 COVID patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.

While 102,542 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives, 270 people have succumbed to the pandemic since April 2020.
