Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed more than 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 in the last two days as the country continues to reel from the current wave of COVID infections.

HPA said on Monday that it had confirmed 1,420 new cases and that 826 new cases have come from the Greater Male' Area while 346 came from the inhabited islands.

HPA also reported 84 new cases from the operational resorts while it reported 1 case from a safari vessel and said that it is yet to confirm the location of 163 other new cases.

Meanwhile, the agency said yesterday that it had confirmed another 1,594 new cases from across the country on Tuesday.

It said that this includes 857 new cases from the Greater Male' Area as well as 438 new cases from the inhabited islands. HPA also confirmed 118 new cases from the operational resorts along with 2 cases from safaris. It further said that the agency is yet to confirm the locations of another 179 new cases in the country.

The new cases from the two days take the total number of cases reported in the country to a staggering 106,595.

HPA said that there are currently 8,079 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 40 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 265 individuals in the Maldives.
