Health Protection Agency HPA says 15 islands across the country are currently under monitoring to further curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Out of the 15 islands, the islands in Addu City have been under monitoring the longest with four islands from the Southern City placed under monitoring on August 28th of this year.
While Hulhumeedhoo of Addu City still remains under monitoring since September, only one island that was placed under monitoring in October still remains in that status and that is Meemu Atoll Mulak.
HPA data showed that 9 islands had been placed under monitoring this month and these include Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, Noonu Landhoo, Thaa Vilufushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo, Kaafu Thulusdhoo, Haa Dhaalu Navaidhoo, Dhaalu Hulhudheli, Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo, and Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhoo.
This comes as the daily number of cases reported in the country daily had been steadily increasing in the last few weeks.
Yesterday, HPA had reported a total of 198 cases in the country with 85 new cases being reported from the inhabited islands in the country. HPA also reported another 53 from the Greater Male' Area and 60 more from the operational resorts in the country.
The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country has now reached 95,420.
