Finance Ministry says the government has issued MVR 280 million as an allowance for front-line workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government had initially disbursed the front-line workers' allowance in May of last year and had issued up to 200 to 500 per day as an allowance.
Finance Ministry said that until yesterday, the government had issued a total of MVR 280.3 million to 15,826 front-line workers fighting the COVID-19 illness in the country.
The allowance is given for different categories of workers including High Risk, Medium Risk, and Low-Risk workers.
Those front-line workers who come in contact with COVID-19 patients are given a daily allowance of MVR 500 while those workers who do not come in contact with COVID patients but are at risk of contracting the illness fall under the medium-risk category.
These workers are given MVR 250 per day and the low-risk workers are given MVR 200 per day.
