Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would today travel to Maafusi island of Kaafu Atoll on a day trip.
Mabrook said via Twitter that during the trip the President would participate in the handover of the picnic island to the local council.
He added that the President will also meet with the island's council, WDC, and visit key locations of the island.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC is developing the picnic island near Maafushi and had announced earlier this month that it had completed reclamation operations.
MTCC had also said that the first shipment of rock boulders required for shore protection has been delivered to the project site.
Earlier this week, MTCC CEO Adam Azim and his team had visited Maafushi and inspected the progress of the K. Maafushi Picnic Island Reclamation and Shore Protection Project.
During this visit, CEO Azim met with the Council and briefed on the progress of the ongoing project.
