MP for Hoarafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem has aimed a dig at the opposition's 'India Out' campaign questioning how the Maldives is able to station its soldiers in India without jeopardizing Indian sovereignty.
This comes amid renewed hostility between the opposition and the supporters of the coalition government after the opposition ramped up its anti-India campaign over the weekend.
In a curtly worded tweet, MP Saleem noted that the Maldives has stationed many of its soldiers in India within the country's regulation and questioned whether this would jeopardize Indian sovereignty.
MP Saleem also questioned whether or not it had become normal for countries to station their troops in other countries to further each other's military and defensive cooperation.
While the MP had equaled the Maldivian troops in India with the Indian soldiers in the Maldives, many are commenting on whether both sets of soldiers shares the same purpose for their deployments.
Most of the Maldivian troops in India are undergoing military training while the true purpose of the Indian troops deployed in the Maldives remains shrouded in mystery.
