Health Protection Agency HPA says there are 2,056 active cases of COVID-19 in the country right now.

HPA said on Friday that it had confirmed 104 new cases of the pandemic in the country yesterday and that this includes 68 new cases from the inhabited islands and 20 new cases from the Greater Male' Area.

HPA added that 16 new cases were confirmed from the operational resorts in the country.

The new cases reported yesterday take the total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the Maldives since March 2020 to a staggering 93,733.

HPA had said that 16 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment while 91,405 people have now recovered from the illness.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 259 in the Maldives with mostly elderly local individuals succumbing to the illness in the country.

HPA had also said that total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
