Housing Development Corporation HDC says it has not made a decision on extending the grace period of Hiya flats.

The grace period for the Hiya Flats is the period in which flat owners do not have to pay the monthly rent for the housing units and also in which owners have to complete the finishing week for the flats.

HDC had initially given a three-month grace period for residents but later on, extended the grace period for four months.

However, some of the residents of Hiya Flats had said that four months are also insufficient to complete the finishing work for the housing units while others have complained about contractors who had delayed construction work.

When asked about it, HDC said to 'The Press' that they were holding discussions with the government about extending the grace period for Hiya Flats and that no decision has yet been made on the matter.

Recently, a civil organization fighting for the rights of Hiya Flat owners had said that it had held discussions with HDC on extending the grace period and that it was now preparing to submit the documents regarding the extension to the government.
