Police have arrested 11 individuals in one day for carrying narcotics and alcohol.

Police had arrested all 11 in different operations it had conducted last Thursday.

Out of the 11, 6 were arrested in two operations the Police had carried out in Kaafu Maafushi after its Drug Enforcement Unit and Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit had received intel that individuals were smuggling and illegally selling alcohol and narcotics on the island.

The 6 include a 21-year-old, a 22-year-old, a 28-year-old, a 29-year-old, a 34-year-old, and a 51-year-old.

While all 6 are men, police identified the 28-year-old as Sri Lankan national and the rest as locals.

Police had also said that the 29-year-old, the 22-year-old, and the 21-year-old were arrested after three houses on the island were searched under court order.

Maafushi magistrate had remanded the suspects in custody for 10 days.

Meanwhile, Police had apprehended 5 suspects after it received intel that a group of individuals were smuggling and illegally selling alcohol in Male'.

Police said that all these suspects were men and that they include a 22-year-old, a 24-year-old, a 25-year-old, a 38-year-old, and a 51-year-old. Police identified the 51-year-old as a Bangladeshi national while the rest were all locals.

Police said that under the operation, its officers had searched a launch docked near the Running track area in Male' and had found 12 cases of alcohol bottles. Police had also found 3 cases of alcohol cases in a taxi in Male'.

Police said that its Drug Enforcement Department was actively investigating the cases.
