Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 116 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Sunday.
HPA said that out of these new cases 25 were reported from the Greater Male' Area where the positivity rate remains at 2 percent.
The Agency also reported 81 new cases from inhabited islands across the country with 6 cases reported from operational resorts. HPA added that 4 new cases were confirmed from safaris operating in the country.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to a staggering 92,211.
HPA had also said that there are 1,739 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that 19 out of those individuals remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency had added that 90,205 people have now recovered from the illness.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 255 people in the Maldives since April 2020.
While the country is enjoying a relatively low infection rate compared to that of earlier this year, authorities in the Maldives are now contemplating further preventive measures as HPA yesterday confirmed the first case of the new COVID variant omicron in the country.
HPA had said that the case was reported from genomic sequencing conducted on a positive sample of a tourist.
