Health Protection Agency HPA says more than 91,400 people in the Maldives have so far tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

HPA said yesterday that 114 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across the country. It said that these include 73 new cases reported from the inhabited islands in the country as well as 25 new cases reported from the Greater Male' Area.

HPA also confirmed 16 new cases from operational resorts across the country.

The total number of cases has now reached 91,464 since March 2020.

HPA said currently there are 1,769 active cases of the pandemic in the country with 12 COVID patients hospitalized for further treatment.

HPA also said that 89,434 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.

The Maldives has recorded 248 COVID-19 deaths since April 2020. Most of those who have succumbed to the pandemic in the island nation include elderly locals with underlying health conditions but few young people have also passed away due to the illness.

HPA had also said that that total number of cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly related to COVID-19.
