Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has topped 89,700 on Saturday.

HPA said yesterday that 184 new cases were reported from across the country on Saturday. It said that this includes 141 new cases from inhabited islands in the country while 11 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area where the positivity rate has now dropped to 1 percent.

HPA also confirmed 27 new cases from operational resorts in the country.

The new cases have taken the total number of cases reported in the country to a staggering 89,713.

The Agency has said that currently there are 2,228 active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives and that 13 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

HPA had also said that 87,225 has recovered from the illness.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has claimed the lives of 247 people in the Maldives since April 2020.

HPA had also said that the total number of cases includes 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly related to the fast-spreading illness.
