Health Protection Agency HPA has reported more than 88,800 cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives since March 2020.
Yesterday, the agency had reported 182 new cases across the country with 124 new cases confirmed from the inhabited islands alone. HPA reported another 34 cases from the operational resorts and an additional 24 cases from the Greater Male' Area.
HPA said that with the new cases, the total number of COVID cases reported in the country has now reached 88,817.
The Agency confirmed that there are currently 2000 active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives with 26 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized for further treatment.
In the last 24 hours, 247 people had recovered from the country taking the total recoveries to 86,559.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 245 people in the Maldives. Most of the deceased include elderly locals with underlying health conditions but few younger individuals have also died from the illness.
HPA had also that the total number of COVID cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
