President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have today departed on an official two-day trip to Sri Lanka.

The President's Office said that the President and First Lady’s visit to Sri Lanka is to officiate the opening ceremony of the “Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021” football tournament.

The Maldives and Sri Lanka will play against each other at the opening match of the tournament participated by national football teams from the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Seychelles.

The President's Office also said that President Solih is scheduled to hold official talks with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during his visit.

The President and First Lady will return to the Maldives on Wednesday, 9 November 2021.

Yesterday, Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof confirmed that match tickets would be sold to Maldivians at slashed prices after discussions with Sri Lankan officials.

Mahloof said that he had initiated discussions with the Sri Lankan officials upon the request of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The Minister said that he had spoken to the President of the Sri Lankan Football Federation Jaswar Umar and that they had decided to sell tickets to Maldivians for Rupees 3,000.
