Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 219 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday.
HPA said that out of the 219 new cases, 173 new cases were reported from the inhabited islands across the country. HPA also said that 29 cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area and that the capital city's COVID positivity rate remained at 2 percent.
It added that another 17 cases were reported from the operational resorts.
The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the country since March 2020 to a staggering 88,277.
With the number of new cases steadily increasing, the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the country has now risen to 1,981. Also, 33 COVID patients are now hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA had confirmed that 86,040 people have recovered from the illness.
The pandemic has claimed the lives of 244 individuals in the Maldives with mostly elderly locals with underlying health conditions succumbing to the illness.
