The family of an 81-year-old woman who died from COVID-19 in Addu City last night had filed a complaint at Police, saying that there are signs of abuse on the body of the deceased woman.

Health Protection Agency HPA had confirmed today that an 81-year-old local woman being treated at Addu COVID management facility had passed away at 02:13 am last night.

This is the 5th COVID-19 death reported in Addu City in this month alone and the 12th COVID death reported across the country in October.

Police said that the family of the deceased had filed a complaint at the Police saying that they had noticed signs of abuse on the body of the COVID victim.

Police added that they were actively investigating the case.

A total of 243 people have now died from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April 2020
