Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 173 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday.

HPA said that out of the 173 new cases, 137 were reported from the inhabited islands where HPA had been reported more and more cases each day.

The Agency also said that 27 new cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area and that the positivity rate from the capital city remains at 2 percent.

It added that another 9 cases were confirmed from the operational resorts in the country.

HPA had confirmed that a total of 87,359 of COVID-19 has now been confirmed from the Maldives since March 2020.

According to HPA data, there are currently 1,651 active cases of the pandemic in the country. Meanwhile, the number of hospitalized COVID patients has again risen to 26 from 20 a day before.

More than 85,450 people have now recovered from the illness.

The global pandemic that has left devastating effects in its wake has killed 242 people in the Maldives and 11 out of those deaths have come this month.
