Health Protection Agency HPA says an elderly man has died from COVID-19 in Addu City last night.

HPA said via Twitter that an 86-year-old man admitted at Addu COVID Management Facility has succumbed to the illness last night at 12:10 am.

The Agency said that this takes the total COVID-19 death toll reported in the country to 241.

HPA had said that a total of 10 people have died from the illness in the country this month alone.

Meanwhile, HPA reported another 149 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday.

It said that 39 cases were from the Greater Male' Area while 85 new cases came from the inhabited islands. HPA also said that 25 new cases were reported from the operational resorts.

This takes the total number of cases reported in the Maldives above 87,000 since March 2020.

HPA said that that there are 1,550 active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives right now and that 22 remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency added that 85,268 individuals have recovered from the illness.
