Health Protection Agency HPA has reported a sudden spike in daily COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
HPA said last via Twitter that 225 new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic were confirmed in the Maldives on Saturday. HPA also said that 39 of the new cases came from the Greater Male' Area and that 33 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts.
The Agency noted that the bulk of the daily cases came from the inhabited islands with 153 new cases confirmed yesterday.
In a further breakdown, HPA said that 86 of the 153 new cases came from Kaafu Atoll Guraidhoo and that another 13 cases were confirmed Gaafu Alifu Atoll Villigilli.
HPA also confirmed another 17 new cases from Addu City.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to a staggering 86,830.
HPA had said that there are currently 1,520 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 19 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency added that 85,075 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 240 people in the Maldives and this includes 9 individuals who succumbed to the fast-spreading disease this month.
