Health Protection Agency HPA says the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has surpassed 86,600.

HPA said on Friday that 55 new cases of the pandemic were reported in the country yesterday and that this includes 21 cases from the Greater Male' Area as well as 21 new cases inhabited islands across the country.

HPA also reported 13 new cases from operational resorts in the country.

The Agency noted that with the new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now reached 86,605.

HPA had said that there are 1,322 active cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives and that 18 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized for further treatment.

It also said that 85,030 people have now recovered from COVID-19 in the country.

The global pandemic has killed 240 people in the Maldives and that includes 9 people who died from the illness in the Maldives this month.

HPA had said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
