Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed two more COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives today.

The Agency confirmed via Twitter that an 81-year-old local woman brought to Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo was declared dead around 09:20 pm last night. HPA had said that this was a COVID death.

HPA had also reported that last night at 01:31 am, an 87-year-old local male admitted at the Addu Covid management facility had also succumbed to the illness.

This means 5 individuals have succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives this month alone.

HPA had confirmed that 237 people have now died due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives since April 2020.

The Agency had said that a total of 85,732 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March 2020. It said that 84,292 people have since recovered from the illness with 1,192 remained as active cases of the pandemic in the country.

HPA added that 13 COVID patients remain hospitalized for further treatment.
