The Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Esala Ruwan Weerakoon has arrived today on an introductory visit to the Maldives.
The foreign ministry said that Weerakoon, assumed charge as the 14th Secretary-General of the SAARC in March last year.
The Ministry also said that during the visit, SAARC Secretary-General is scheduled to call on the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Foreign Secretary, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, and Ambassador at Large and Former SAARC Secretary-General, Ahmed Saleem.
It said that the Secretary-General will also call on Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President of the Civil Service Commission, Mohamed Nasih.
The Foreign Ministry informed that SAARC Secretary-General will depart on 13th October 2021 at the conclusion of his visit.
It added that the Secretary-General is accompanied by his spouse, Krishanti Weerakoon, and Ismail Mamdhooh, Director, Social Affairs Division at SAARC Secretariat.
