Bangladesh has come from behind to hold India to a 1-1 draw in the 3rd match of the SAFF Championship 2021.

The Bangladeshi team had won the opening fixture of the tournament after beating Sri Lanka 1-0 and looked to secure three points before their match against the hosts Maldives next Thursday.

But India, in its first showing of the competition, drew first blood with a 26th-minute goal from the captain and talisman Suni Chhetri.

Bangladesh came back stronger in the second half and spurned several chances before being reduced to 10 men after Bishwanath was shown a red card for stopping a clear chance on goal. He had pulled back an Indian attacker who had a clear run at the goal.

Although the red card hindered their play, the Bangladeshi supporters inside the nation stadium backed their team in full volume which resulted in an unlikely equalizer from the team in green.

They equalized in the 74th minute when Yeasin Arafat connected well with pinged corner and headed the ball into the Indian goal.

Both teams had the chance to steal all three points but in the end, shared the spoils.

The point from this match moves Bangladesh to the top of the table after they won once and drew once from their first two matches.

The draw today pressures regional powerhouse India, which is now at the 3rd spot of the 5-team table.
